Hi guys,<br>
<br>
After a very long hiatus, I am back swinging a brush. I love miniature painting and catching up with mates to play a game. Not as much of that unfortunately so I have lived my hobby mostly vicariously through other blogs, forums and Facebook groups.<br>
<br>
This year I have made a concerted effort to make the most of my spare time to catch up with mates and get my hobby mojo back.<br>
<br>
I can still swing a brush neatly but have forgotten most of what I had learned so it was back to scratch for me. Our youngest son is 10 and we have had some fantastic fun playing Zombicide Black Plague. I pledged during the Kickstarter and have been overwhelmed with what a great game it is. <br>
<br>
The figures needed little prep. To be on the safe side, I did wash them in warm soapy water before undercoating the models with a black primer. Prior to undercoating I also used freshly boiled water in a coffee mug to straighten any pieces of the models that had slight bending or warping. The normal removal of mould lines (as this is my one pet hate) to prevent spoiling the paint job.<br>
<br>

Guys this is not a paid advertisement. I want to give a big nod to Gavin who owns Irresistible Force in Brisbane, Queensland.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Last week I called Gav to ask about getting my first airbrush and compressor. Gav spent 40 minutes on that one phone call in addition to a few e-mails. At the end of the call I had received great advice and could place an order with confidence and am very satisfied with my purchase. </span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
More than once I have called up with questions about painting miniatures. Gav has won quite a few painting awards and also commission paints in addition to running his store. With a wealth of experience, he is always willing to take the time to give advice in person or over the phone. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you are lucky enough to drop into Irresistible Force you will see Gav puts his money where his mouth is and stocks a wide variety of paints, resin bases and a plethora of other hobby supplies and miniatures from different companies.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Great customer service and excellent advice on the painting as well as the products he stocks. He has always gone the extra mile with a friendly, no nonsense approach to dealing with customers. Any e-mails or queries are always answered quickly. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
After some hit & miss service from another store it is great to have found Gav at Irresistible Force (even if it is a 2 hour drive away). Fortunately Gav's also has an online store :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div>
Happy Gaming & big props to Gav!</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
Good evening Ladies and Gents,<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Time for an update. Gaming has been minimal due to a hectic family life and the joy of having a dodgy back from the Army.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am very fortunate to have some great mates in our gaming group that don't mind. Since I last posted, I have played Napoleonic Black Powder in 15mm, Hail Caesar in 15mm, Flames of War, and lastly SAGA.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The difference between playing 15mm and 28mm is interesting. 15mm armies can make the game look like more of a battle rather than a skirmish. I started up a Republican Roman Army in 15mm (since I already own some very nice 28mm Warlord Games Early Imperial Romans).</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I knocked together this to make handling figures easier while painting. Very high tech to be sure. Simple and it works extremely well. A length of dowel cut into smaller pieces and a old block of pine with holes drilled slightly bigger to sit the dowel in. Great for undercoating with a spray can or airbrush as you can get up underneath a figure. I picked the dowel to be the size that felt most comfortable in my hand.</div>

I painted up an old GW Ork Skorcha Buggy for my eldest son. I still play the occasional model game with the boys and I always end up playing the "bad guys" and losing to the "good guys" played by my sons. Great fun to be sure and I enjoy anytime I get to spend with the boys. </div>

Hi Guys,<br />
<br />
Those who know me are aware I have been a long time supporter of Games Workshop and their products.<br />
<br />
I have been playing and collecting Games Workshop games since Rogue Trader was first released. <br />
<br />
This announcement from Warren of <a href="http://www.beastsofwar.com/" target="_blank">Beasts of War</a> has allowed me to cement my decision to no longer support Games Workshop or any product from them. <br />
<br />
Considering I have bought every Army Book, Army Codex, rulebook and just about every game miniature, terrain piece, novel, audio book (you get the idea) that I could get my hands on this is not a decision I have come to lightly.<br />
<br />
Since Games Workshops Legal team has been nothing short of heavy handed and I have no wish to endure the bullying and immoral tactics endured by others who have done nothing but support the hobby and Games Workshop as a major player in miniature wargaming.<br />
<br />
Whenever I encounter a problem I actively do something about it. I will be removing all content relating to Games Workshop and their products from this blog and forums I have posted in. I will be selling or binning <b>all</b> my (<b>not inconsiderable)</b> Games Workshop related product I have amassed over the last 26 years.<br />
<br />
Furthermore I have sent the following E-mail marked for the attention of Senior Management at Games Workshop:<br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Arial Unicode MS';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">To Whom it may Concern,</span></span><div style="font-family: 'Arial Unicode MS';">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Arial Unicode MS';">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Arial Unicode MS';">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><b>For the Attention of: Games Workshop Senior Management</b></span><div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><b>RE: Beasts of War (Important Announcement) :</b> <a href="http://www.beastsofwar.com/games-workshop/announcement/">http://www.beastsofwar.com/games-workshop/announcement/</a></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Games from Rogue Trader onwards have played a major role in the Wargaming Hobby for myself and a large group of my friends.</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">I have supported GW the whole time when others have left after decisions from unreasonable price rises, the huge disparity in price here in Australia Vs Overseas to the use of overpriced Finecast miniatures (which has been anything but in my experience over a number of purchases - no it has not improved!).</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">I have supported Games Workshop in their pursuit to protect their Intellectual Property where reasonable. </span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span><i>For Example: Chapterhouse Studios.</i></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">I have been dismayed at the increasing number of correspondence the Gaming Community has from the Legal Department of Games Workshop which specifically threaten and bully Websites and Blogs that support Games Workshop and the diverse products you supply.</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">The actions of the Legal Department have undermined the many years of hard work by the creators, game designers, Sculptors, Storeman, Salesmen, Office Workers and every other employee past and present (male and female).</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">After considerable thought I will no longer support Games Workshop or any product related to Games Workshop or it's subsidiaries. The actions of your Legal team are immoral, cowardly and nothing short of bullying the very supporters of the products you sell!</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Bearing in mind I have purchased all your game systems from Rogue Trader onwards, Black Library Novels, all the Army Books and Army Codexes, Audio Books, PC games and White Dwarf magazines (to name but a few). While your legal team continues to pursue this course of action, Games Workshop's hard earned image as a major player in the wargaming industry will continue to be tarnished and eventually do irreparable damage to itself.</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">You have certainly lost more than one wargamer over this issue. I am just one of a minority who bothered to write to you and tell you what you are doing is wrong and has cost you my business permanently. The others will not bother to tell you. They will quit the hobby and spend their money elsewhere taking other players with them to alternate wargaming companies.</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">There is no incentive to come back.</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">So that as a Wargamer I am not sued by Games Workshop I am hear-by notifying Games Workshop that I will be removing all blog content, content I have placed on forums, photobucket, PC Games, Army Books, Army Codexes, Rulebooks, Novels, Forgeworld Kits, Miniatures, photos, trophies, White Dwarf magazines, Audio Books I have purchased over the last 25 years.</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">To make it very clear to the imbeciles in your Legal Team. My most recent purchase was the current Spacemarine Codex and all the accompanying plastic kits.</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">The other major point I would like to get across to the Games Workshop Legal team is that I will now have a huge amount of shelf space to dedicate to the products from: Warlord Games, Privateer Press, Battlefront, Mantic Games, Victrix, Perry Brothers (their non GW miniatures), and Spartan Games to name but a few that I already purchase from. </span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Games Workshop's Senior Management and Legal Team owes nothing short of an unreserved apology to Beasts of War and the wider Wargaming Community.</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Sincerely,</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Allan Traise</span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Avid Wargamer and former long time supporter of Games Workshop.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am not rage quitting the hobby. I enjoy it far too much for that. From here on in the other great games will feature on this blog and forums posts.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Happy Gaming to you all!</div>

Hi guys,<br />
<br />
A quick update today.<br />
<br />
I got to play my first game of Muskets and Tomahawks with a good mate Peter this afternoon.<br />
<br />
The attacks are resolved with dice but the order in which units are activated is randomly determined using a Card Deck. Units are activated by type. It is a great game that you could pick up easily after a few minutes and get the majority of the core rules down within a game or two.<br />
<br />
Tomahawks and Muskets is set during the period of the French Indian Wars (think Canada, last of the Mohicans and The Patriot). We had around 23 figures per side for a 200 point game.<br />
<br />
I played American Continentals whose goal was to scout each quarter of the table and then escape back to my table edge and off the board.<br />
<br />
Peter played the French Indian (Canadian) force whose job was to protect the civilians in the small settlement.<br />
<br />
Here are a few quick pictures from our game:<br />
<br />
<b>French Indian Deployment:</b><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s115.photobucket.com/user/Anzac1991/media/Miniatures/Battle%20Reports/Deployment_zpse9f51762.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="IPB Image" border="0" height="265" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Battle%20Reports/Deployment_zpse9f51762.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Ten civilians in the buildings and French infantry defending the village. The civilians are not there to fight but are armed and did cause me a bit of grief killing a few models.<br />
<br />
<b>Flank Them:</b><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s115.photobucket.com/user/Anzac1991/media/Miniatures/Battle%20Reports/OpeningMoves_zpsc3b1622f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="IPB Image" border="0" height="266" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Battle%20Reports/OpeningMoves_zpsc3b1622f.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>French Indians arrive to reinforce Peter's Settlement:</b><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s115.photobucket.com/user/Anzac1991/media/Miniatures/Battle%20Reports/Deployment_zpse9f51762.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="IPB Image" border="0" height="266" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Battle%20Reports/Deployment_zpse9f51762.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Charge - DOH!!! </b> <br />
<br />
My Indians completely whiffed the assault and lost half their number in assault leaving 3 remaining which died shortly afterwards.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s115.photobucket.com/user/Anzac1991/media/Miniatures/Battle%20Reports/Charge_zpscee03578.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="IPB Image" border="0" height="266" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Battle%20Reports/Charge_zpscee03578.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Revenge:</b><br />
<br />
I finally manage to get a few shots away and force the French Infantry to run away (for a short while)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s115.photobucket.com/user/Anzac1991/media/Miniatures/Battle%20Reports/Revenge_zpsa1214afa.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="IPB Image" border="0" height="266" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Battle%20Reports/Revenge_zpsa1214afa.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
No more photos unfortunately. Peter won but the game was very, very close. Never underestimate a civilian with a musket <img alt="tongue.gif" border="0" emoid=":P" src="http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align: middle;" /><br />
It was a great game and I enjoyed it very much. Peter has now supplied me with a starting force of American Continentals to paint up.<br />
<br />
More updates to follow.<br />
<br />
<br />
Happy Gaming,<br />

I normally play for fun and never for sheep stations even at tournaments so am having a blast with my boys. I always take softer lists for myself and give the boys one or two fun things.<br /><br />The added bonus to having a hoard of unpainted figures is I can reward my boys when they work hard and behave with the occasional model. It does make her unique amongst the Wargaming community that is mostly male and make it that much richer by her presence.<br />
<br />
After reaching 100,000 page views on her blog <a href="http://wargaminggirl.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Wargaming Girl</a>, Tamsin has decided to celebrate by generously offering prizes to lucky followers of her blog. The link below contains the details and rules. Who can say no to getting some new shiny figures :) <br />

I have been following Tamsin's blog for some time. At the end of the day when I can read a blog and see people from around the world who enjoy the hobby as much as me, it makes me a happy wargamer.<br />

Hi Guys,<br />
<br />
<br />
I would like to introduce <a href="http://www.aventineminiatures.co.uk/index.html" target="_blank">Aventine Miniatures</a> to my collection. Specifically, the Early Imperial Romans.<br />
<br />
I have recently started playing Hail Caesar with a few mates and it is a cracking game. I already own a stack of <a href="http://www.warlordgames.com/" target="_blank">Warlord Games</a> Early Imperial Romans. Hail Caesar uses bases to represent commanders at different levels in Hail Caesar and while I had a few ideas of my own while doing the rounds on the internet, I stumbled upon this on the <a href="http://www.lead-adventure.de/index.php" target="_blank">Lead Adventure Forums</a>.<br />
<br />
Adam has used various figures from Aventine Miniatures Early Imperial Roman Range to make a <a href="http://www.lead-adventure.de/index.php?topic=48151.0" target="_blank">Command Stand</a>. The result is stunning. Inspiration and decision made. After exchanging a couple of brief E-mails with Keith of Aventine Miniatures, Keith has handpicked out the same figures as a Special Order for me.<br />
<br />
Imagine my delight when my Adam's Special Early Imperial Romans arrived in the mail today.<br />
<br />
<br />
Now moving onto the figures themselves. The figures are from a variety of packs from <a href="http://www.aventineminiatures.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=53_74" target="_blank">Aventine Miniatures Early Imperial Romans Range</a>. Keith offered to pick the figures himself and put them in a pack so I could use them in my Early Imperial Roman Army. His communication was excellent.<br />
<br />
I am very happy with the sculpting. The casting does not let you down either. These are without a doubt the cleanest cast pewter figures I have received in a long time.<br />
<br />
While I am not up to Adam's standards for painting and converting, I hope I can do them justice.<br />
<br />

Hi Guys,<br />
<br />
I am still painting although gaming has been non existent (for now).<br />
<br />
To prove it here is a photo of a Norman Knight that is nearly finished.<br />
<br />
I used a Little Big Men Studios shield transfer for the Conquest Games Norman Knight. The shield transfers are excellent and easy to use. A hole is left in the transfer for a shield boss and most of the Conquest Games shields have no shield boss.<br />
<br />
Using a Gripping Beast kite shield I made a mould using Green Stuff of the shield boss.<br />
<br />
I left the mould for a day and a half and then started press moulding green stuff shield bosses. I wet the mould before press moulding so the green stuff did not stick.<br />
<br />
The figure is painted, shield transfer is on. I used Super Glue to glue the new shield boss onto the shield and painted it metal before using a black wash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/NormanKnightwithGSshieldboss.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/NormanKnightwithGSshieldboss.jpg" width="297" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Now I have to use gloss varnish on the shield to protect it then matt varnish the whole figure before adding flock and it is finished!<br />
<br />
11 more knights to go.<br />
<br />
<br />
Happy Gaming to you all!<br />

Our Gaming group has started getting into SAGA.<br />

The guys over at <a href="http://www.wwpd.net/" target="_blank">WWPD</a> have also started SAGA and with it a webpage devoted to SAGA.<br />

Hi Guys,<br />
<br />
I love playing Flames of War with my mates amongst other historical games like Black Powder, Clash of Empires.......<br />
<br />
I normally tune in to the <a href="http://www.wwpd.net/" target="_blank">WWPD (What Would Patton Do) podcast</a> as it is light hearted, great fun and the guys just encourage the hobby they enjoy so much.<br />
<br />
For the most part it is Flames of War based although other games get a mention from time to time.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.wwpd.net/2012/06/wwpd-news-from-front-episode-39.html" target="_blank">Episode 39</a> is something a bit special as it includes an interview with John-Paul of Battlefront fame.<br />
<br />
John-Paul answers some great questions from the guys and gives away a few spoilers. For that alone it is well worth listening to.<br />

Hi Guys,<br />
<br />
<br />
While I still enjoy Flames of War the offerings at Warlord Games Bolt Action Range of figures and vehicles are too nice to not explore further.<br />
<br />
I ordered British Infantry, German Infantry and british Commandos and a couple of Universal Carriers and Support weapons for each to see what the quality is like.<br />
<br />
I am pleased to say AWESOME!<br />
<br />
The plan is to expand the collection for Skirmish Gaming but in the short term here are a few preview pictures. After all I must at least try to finish my SAGA project first!<br />
<br />
<br />
British Rifleman<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/World%20War%202%20-%20British%2028%20mm/BritishRiflemanBAMiniatures.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/World%20War%202%20-%20British%2028%20mm/BritishRiflemanBAMiniatures.jpg" width="273" /></a></div>
<br />
British Bren Gunner<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/World%20War%202%20-%20British%2028%20mm/BrenGunnerBAMiniatures.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/World%20War%202%20-%20British%2028%20mm/BrenGunnerBAMiniatures.jpg" width="282" /></a></div>
<br />
Lastly a comparison vs a GW Space Marine<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/World%20War%202%20-%20British%2028%20mm/GWBAminissizecomparison.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/World%20War%202%20-%20British%2028%20mm/GWBAminissizecomparison.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

Hi Guys,<br />
<br />
<br />
Bet you didn't think I would follow with an update so quickly after the first!<br />
<br />
I picked up a box of <a href="http://www.conquest-games.co.uk/" target="_blank">Conquest Games</a> Norman Knights. They are a nice plastic set which allow for easy conversions and are nicely detailed which I hope my photos display below.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/NormanKnightsConquestGamesPlastics-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="195" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/NormanKnightsConquestGamesPlastics-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
You will notice that all have had the plastic spears removed and replaced with Brass Wire Spears. I have young kids and the chance of a few breakages are pretty good.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/NormansKnightswithBrassWireSpears-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="153" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/NormansKnightswithBrassWireSpears-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Parts are included for a command group including a Lord, Musician, and Banner/Pennant Bearer.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/NormanLord-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/NormanLord-1.jpg" width="190" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/NormansKnightMusician-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/NormansKnightMusician-1.jpg" width="312" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The casualty base is a very nice touch as well<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/NormanCasualtyMarker-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="289" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/NormanCasualtyMarker-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Lastly in the box Renedra Bases are included (both single and double cavalry bases - 4 of each). I decided to magnetise the bases for storage and transport using 3 mm diameter rare earth magnets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/MagnetisedBases-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Normans/MagnetisedBases-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I am very happy with the Conquest Games Normans and am looking to add more for my SAGA Army. I may even extend the collection for playing larger Clash of Empires or Hail Caesar games. Mmmmm Crusades .......<br />
<br />
We are due to play SAGA again in around two weeks and I hope to have some paint on them by then!<br />
<br />
<br />

Hi Guys,<br />
<br />
Update time again - Finally!!<br />
<br />
Over the last month or so a good friend has introduced me to SAGA a Dark Ages Skirmish Game.<br />
<br />
SAGA by Tomahawk Studio is well worth looking at providing an enjoyable game with not too many figures. I will not ramble too much about the game but here are a few links for those interested:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://studiotomahawk.freeforums.org/" target="_blank">Studio Tomahawk Forums</a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.grippingbeast.com/shop.php?CatID=2396" target="_blank">SAGA Products - released through Gripping Beast</a><br />
<br />
Needless to say the game has grown in popularity that many other gaming stores sell it as well but at least the above links point you in the right direction.<br />
<br />
Fans have even created 100 Years War and <a href="http://roughwotr.blogspot.com.au/search/label/iliad%20and%20LBA" target="_blank">Ancient Greek Iliad</a> variants which are available on the forums (from memory).<br />
<br />
Best of all, any miniature range goes!<br />
<br />
More to follow!<br />
<br />
<br />
Happy Gaming,<br />

</b>Hi guys,<br />
<br />
My 20 mm Elhiem Figures arrived and I started to clean them and base them.<br />
<br />
I am happy to say very little cleanup is required if any and the detail is as good as shown on their webpage.<br />
<br />
To be honest I am kicking myself for not trying these out sooner.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
A few quick WIP photos to prove I am doing something even if there is not much to see yet.<br />
<br />
<img alt="IPB Image" border="0" height="237" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Ambush%20Alley/Gettingstarted.jpg" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; vertical-align: middle;" width="400" /><br />
<br />
<br />
After cleaning up the models I use superglue to attach the miniature to some flat washers.<br />
<br />
I placed masking tape underneath the washers to prevent the washer and miniature from being superglued to the cutting board or table.<br />
<br />
I do plan to glue magnetic sheeting to the underside of these washers to aid storage and transportation (more on that later). The washers were very cheap for around $4-5 for 100 washers.<br />
<br />
<br />
<img alt="IPB Image" border="0" height="253" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Ambush%20Alley/Gettingstartedfirstnightwork.jpg" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; vertical-align: middle;" width="400" /><br />
<br />
<br />
Here is the total of tonights work. Not much but it has been a very long week and it was great to show some progress. I will keep chipping away at these.<br />
<br />
The first models I have been basing are <a href="http://www.elhiemfigures.com/iraq_and_afghan_69.html">Iraqi models from Elhiem Figures Afghanistan and Iraq range</a>. Before anyone goes all <span style="color: #3333ff;">"Peace, Love and Mung Beans"</span> on me (Damn Hippies!), I do not plan to use them as Iraqi soldiers.<br />
<br />
I am toying with painting them up as Modern Day Soviet Cold War models, UN Peace Keepers from African Countries or as a Private Army for some evil Warlord/Druglord/Cultist.<br />
<br />
<br />
As you can see I have narrowed the choices down <img alt="biggrin.gif" border="0" emoid=":D" src="http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; vertical-align: middle;" /><br />
<br />
<br />
Lastly I picked up some cork tiles to make buildings for Force on Force.<br />
<br />
<br />
<img alt="IPB Image" border="0" height="274" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Ambush%20Alley/CorkTilesforterrain.jpg" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; vertical-align: middle;" width="400" /><br />
<br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 1px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 1px; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Arial, 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif, Georgia, Courier, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 19px;">Ultimately I want to do this well to bring in more customers to our Local Gaming Store and have a laugh at the same time. It's the weekend here in Australia so let's see if I can keep this going over the next few weeks.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 1px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 1px; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Arial, 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif, Georgia, Courier, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 19px;"><br />
<br />
Happy Gaming,<br />

Hi Guys,<br />
<br />
As mentioned in previous posts, this diary will focus on Modern Day Skirmish and Battle games.<br />
<br />
<b>Rules:</b><br />
<br />
Current ruleset I have, is <a href="http://ambushalleygames.com/">Force on Force </a>now produced by Osprey Publishing.<br />
<br />
<br />
I was very impressed with the quality of the book and the rules inside. I will try to write a basic review once I have a game or two under my belt. <br />
<br />
In the meantime I have included a few reviews to help people not familiar with Force on Force.<br />

<b>Scale:</b><br />
<br />
20 mm scale: - This seems to offer the most options for vehicle and miniatures at present. It also strikes a nice balance between storage and table space with as little as 2' x 2' needed.<br />
<br />
<br />
28mm: - being the miniature hussy that I am I am sure I will get some figures in this scale as well.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Aim:</b><br />
<br />
To collect and paint enough Miniatures and Terrain to cover skirmish games with a view to running games at my Local Gaming Store Battle Station in Toowoomba and possibly run participation games at events like AUSCON.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Setting:</b><br />
<br />
Will most likely be a fictional Country to prevent clashes with some of the conflicts ongoing today. I am Ex-Army and do not celebrate or glorify war in any way shape or form. <br />
<br />
I do enjoy fictional settings like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Storm_Rising">Tom Clancy's book Red Storm Rising</a> and movies like <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1217613/">Battlefield LA</a> however and to play something similar on the tabletop is my goal.<br />
<br />
Hope you enjoy the journey as much as I do!<br />
<br />
Now off to an appointment and I hope to have my first miniatures arrive in the mail today.<br />
<br />
Happy Gaming,<br />

Hi guys,<br />
<br />
Here is a snapshot of some of the projects I have at the moment:<br />
<br />
<b>Infinity the Game - Ariadna Highlander</b><br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
I have only played a few games. The rules are free for download and the models are incredible.<br />
<br />
This is one Caledonian Volunteer that I am mucking around with. Still a ways to go yet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Infinity%20Diary/HighlanderWIP.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="306" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Infinity%20Diary/HighlanderWIP.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
<b>Ambush Alley - Modern Skirmish gaming</b><br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
So I took the plunge and bought the new <a href="http://ambushalleygames.com/">Ambush Alley Games</a> Force on Force Rulebook. The book is extremely good value for money and I have no regrets buying it even if I did not ever play it.<br />
<br />
Plenty of Examples, diagrams, photos and did I mention an Index and Contents? Rules that are cross-referenced are always given a page number so you can follow up on it.<br />
<br />
I have not decided on a setting and am thinking of a Fictional Country using both COIN (Counter Insurgency Missions) and Conventional Warfare. A <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1217613/">Battlefield LA</a> scenario might be worked on as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Ambush%20Alley/GettingstartedRulebook.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Ambush%20Alley/GettingstartedRulebook.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Seen here is a Dragon Armour pre-paint to use with my US Forces. Humvee with TOW. Happy with that for $15 Australian!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Ambush%20Alley/US%20Forces/HumveewithTOW.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="275" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Ambush%20Alley/US%20Forces/HumveewithTOW.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
At this stage the plan is to use 20mm scale miniatures which match nicely with 1/72 plastic model kits and there is a healthy range of product out there for us to use as well. This should save of space and cost. The smallest area for game play would be 2' x 2' which means you could play this game almost anywhere.<br />
<br />
Further updates soon. I have placed an order with <a href="http://www.elhiemfigures.com/index.html">Elhiem Figures</a>. These are extremely nice miniatures that are well details, affordable and the range is constantly updated. <br />
<br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
<b>Early Imperial Romans - Praetorian Guard</b><br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
These guys are nice to assembled but I would have preferred more Gladius (Swords) or Pilia in an upright pose. <a href="http://www.warlordgames.co.uk/">Warlord Games</a> does produce wonderful miniature kits and their after sales service has been great the two time I have used it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Early%20Imperial%20Romans/PraetorianGuardunpaintedfront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Early%20Imperial%20Romans/PraetorianGuardunpaintedfront.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Early%20Imperial%20Romans/PraetorianGuardunpaintedtop.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="278" src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n288/Anzac1991/Miniatures/Early%20Imperial%20Romans/PraetorianGuardunpaintedtop.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I am using the <a href="http://back2base-ix.com/">Back 2 Base-ix </a>movement Trays and magnets that come in a number of kits. These have save me so much time, frustration and money (compared to a GW's basing). One more company that gives great service and has useful products.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I love the fact the miniatures will not slide or tip over during a game.</div>

<br />
I finished Wittman's Tiger tank for my Late War German Armies. I do not plan to use many tiger tanks in my lists and picked this one up for fun.<br />
<br />
Mostly I play Heer (normal german army) lists.<br />
<br />
Hope you like it. I like it a lot better than my Irish Guards :)<br />

<br />
I promised update so I had better deliver otherwise what is the point of blogging right?<br />
<br />
After so much Nerd Rage over GW prices and policies this week I have decided to dedicate more of this blog to other mainstream games and miniatures that most players used to GW games are not aware of.<br />
<br />
I would much prefer to focus on something productive than promote the negative.<br />

Here are pictures of my Flames of War Irish Guards models. A fair bit below my normal standard but time was short and I had a tourney to go to at AUSCON.<br />

I painted the Army over 3 days to a basic tabletop standard and hit them with a quick Gloss Varnish to protect them.<br />
<br />
With so many half finished projects I had forgotten how good it feels to play with and against painted armies on a nice table. The plan is to take more time on my other Armies since I am in no rush to play at tournaments for a while.<br />
<br />
I am selling some of my Flames of War to make way for a new project: <a href="http://ambushalleygames.com/">Ambush Alley</a><br />
<br />
<br />
Until next post, Happy Gaming!<br />

If you grew up watching Battle of Britain movies and comic books you will love this.<br />

Lots of collectors hard work coming together for an Airshow in Britain.<br />

<br />
<br />
Had a great time at AUSCON. <br />
<br />
Played in the Flames of War - Late War Tournament on the Saturday but missed the Sunday due to an old Army Injury (3 back operations slows me down some days).<br />
<br />
A great effort by the organisers of AUSCON and not to forget Garry Wait the Flames of War Tournament Organiser.<br />
<br />
The terrain was great although I hate bogging tanks on hedges.<br />
<br />
Out of three games I lost the first against a Dogs and Devils HG Pioneer List, won the second against Germans Fallschirmjager's and lost the last against 78th Sturm Division.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I took Irish Guards from Hell's Highway Briefing using:<br />
<br />
<b>HQ:</b><br />
<br />
2 Shermans<br />
1 Sherman ARV<br />
<br />
<b>Combat Platoons: (four of the below)</b><br />
<br />
2 Shermans<br />
1 Firefly<br />
<br />
<b>Weapons Platoon:</b><br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
3x Stuart (recce)<br />
<br />
<b>Support:</b><br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
Guards Column Platoon - 3 Universal Carriers<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><b>What did I learn?</b></div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">More practice needed on placing objectives.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">They are pretty light on in assaults. Especially against pioneers and Sturm Division. </div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Assaults are hard when you have to go over hedges rather than minefields and into pioneers.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">I love objective based games that stop you from just standing back and shooting.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">I wish I had taken a more balanced list with Infantry and Artillery like I normally do.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />

<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">The Vendors were fantastic and had a wide selection of stock to the point that Games Workshop and Warmachine items were the exception rather than the rule. I was in heaven looking at all the historical figures as well as the very nice fantasy and Sci-fi/Pulp figures on offer.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">I nearly picked up a copy of Dust Tactics for the lovely Mech walkers for 28mm Wierd War gaming.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Pheonix Forge ran some great Demo games of Pulp City, Infinity, Dystopian Wars and a few others I was not familiar with. Their Demo tables were fantastic!!! I wish I had a camera with me as a picture tells a thousand words.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Irresistible Force stocked a great range of figures and even displayed a few new figures from Battlefront (Flames of War).</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />

<br />
For those Gamers who can make it <a href="http://www.auscongames.com.au/">AUSCON</a> is on for the first time this year.<br />
<br />
I have bought my ticket and entered for the Late War Flames of War Tournament with a mate.<br />
<br />
I am really looking forward to seeing everything instead of having to look at pictures from conventions overseas.<br />
<br />
A great deal of hard work (by Mark and Allan) has gone into making this possible so make sure you attend if you can and if you are there, come and say G'day :)<br />
<br />
Hopefully it will be the first of many AUSCONs!<br />
<br />
Now which Army do I take? That will probably be the focus of my next update. lol<br />
<br />
Happy Gaming,<br />
